March 2022 update: The Matteo Berrettini-Ajla Tomljanović love story is over. The cute tennis couple has split and unfollowed each other on social media.

Matteo Berrettini and Australian tennis player Ajla Tomljanović are a couple. They have been together for a few months now.  Tomljanović is 26 and is 3 years older than Berrettini.

Ajla Tomljanović was born in Zagreb, Croatia.  She obtained permanent residency in Australia in 2014, and has been representing Australia in all events since 2018.

In an interview with an Italian newspaper,  Berrettini explained how they started dating:

“First of all I liked her physically: I thought I was attracted by blondes; instead I find myself with a brunette. Ajla has a good soul; I would even say pure, and I had to find out step by step. Because of her education and culture, she was difficult to reach. And what I found struck me.”

With both of them traveling all year, they catch up with each other when they can, and communicate via video to keep their relationship strong.

Berrettini’s coach Umberto  Rianna has said that the pair’s relationship has had a positive influence on Berrettini. “That was important too, at some point it came and it’s definitely useful.”
