Roger Federer announced that he will skip the first edition of the ATP Cup to be held in Australia from January 3-12 due to family reasons. Since Stan Wawrinka also pulled out of the event, Switzerland is out of the team competition.
The eight-team ATP Cup joins a crowded calendar of team events in 2020, including Davis Cup and the Laver Cup, which Federer co-owns. 2020 calendar also includes the Olympics in Tokyo.
Federer has committed to playing exhibition matches in China between December 27 to 29, 2019. It is not clear if Federer plans to play any warm up tournaments prior to the Australian Open.
