Stefan Kozlov accidentally hit a car that was parked on the court by the sponsors. Kozlov was returning a wide serve on the deuce court in his quarterfinal match against Tommy Paul when he hit the BMW car.
The position of the car was questionable at best. It was only a matter of time before a player ran into it. Luckily, it was just damage to the car and no player was hurt.
Sponsors, in an attempt to get the maximum benefit out of their marketing dollars, resort to putting things on the court that is distracting to plays and could potentially hurt them.
In 2017, David Goffin hurt his ankle after sliding into a courtside loose tarp at the French Open. Goffin had to withdraw from the match.
